LADYTRON

I'm lazy. What else can I say? So the next few posts are going to be about things that I should have documented months ago.

So for starters I will tell you about a very memorable concert experience I had back in April. Tuesday April 21, 2009 to be exact. My day started out like any other. I was barely on time for work and I had skipped breakfast. I am a Special Ed. teacher so my day is filled with teaching life skills, dodging thrown objects, hugs, dodging thrown objects, making popcorn, dodging thrown objects, drawing pictures, and of course dodging thrown objects.

So of all the days to have some delayed reflexes this was the one. One of my students was in a bad mood and clocked me right in the right eye with a kitchen timer from approximately 5 ft. away. I never saw it coming. I didn't even know that the student was holding it to begin with. He has big hands!

After I'm hit all I can think of is"Tonight is Ladytron! I must SEE Ladytron!" Never mind any of the really important stuff one has to be able to do with sight. ..like look at my family.
Anyways after an hour of filling out paperwork, seeing the school nurse (it felt cool to cut in line), and filling out more paper work I was able to return back to work...paranoid.

But I was able to make it to the concert along with my brother in law, Aaron. Ladytron was awesome just as I had expected. After the show I was able to grab a set list that was nearly stolen by some pale thin girl with heavy black eyeliner. She was strong!

Then they announced that the band would be hanging out at a club called the Beauty Bar. I was ready to call it a night but Aaron thought we should try to meet them so we went. The only thing was it was a 21 and older club so Aaron had to wait out side while I attempted to find Ladytron's four members. He was cool with it but it was kind of funny to look outside every once in a while and see him standing on the other side of the gate by himself or with the occasional scary looking homeless person.

It was worth the 2 hour wait. I was able to meet and get the autographs of three of the four members and i was a little thrown off because of how nice they were. They were so easy to talk to that I didn't know what to say. I started feeling awkward thinking to myself, "Hey, shouldn't you be a little more "Rockstar" distant to your fans?"

I felt like I could have invited them over for Sunday dinner and they would have accepted. For that I will always be fans of this group and you should too. They are nice folks.

These guys actully smile from time to time.

I'm Still Alive!

Don't worry folks. I'm not dead yet and new posts are on the way. We have been up to our eyeballs in work, moving, school, children and other people's children. So be on the lookout for these and other exciting titles..."Mike meets Ladytron", Ben vs. the Haircut", and "Santa conquers the Martians".

Texas

Well folks as many of you already know we have moved back to Austin or Round Rock to be exact. I have accepted a job back at Deerpark Middle School where I worked back in '03 and '04. Now I haven't completed my schooling just yet but Calie and I plan to enroll somewhere down here. I'm hoping for UT! Anyways we still are missing Boise and I can't believe at how attached I was getting to the area and the people. I actually miss the BSU campus. We left behind family and a lot of friends that we miss very much but we are looking forward to this new year.

When we came down here on break Calie and I went to Wal- Mart to buy candy (again) and low and behold Duane Thomas was there signing autographs for charity! I almost crapped my pants I was so excited! Who's Duane Thomas you might ask? Well he was the NFL Rookie of the year in 1970 and helped the Cowboys defeat the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VI. He was really nice and easy to talk to.

I've also eaten my body weight in Whataburger.

BREAKIN'

I have a confession. I love bad movies. I love crappy movies. I love cheesy movies. I love ridiculous movies. If it won an Academy Award I won't watch it.I don't know why but I won't.

My wife's suggestion that we subscribe to NETFLIX is finally paying off. Good for me, bad for her. Because now I don't have to dream about watching Breakin'...I can watch it forever, twice a day!

This movie is awesome...if you can ignore the tight pants and leotards on the men in some of the scenes. You gotta remember it was the 80's. And you might want to close your eyes during the dance scenes that have "awkward man crotch" shots in them. Other than that it's great because of the break dancing! It even has a young Ice- T in it rapping like I did when I was in 3rd grade. You know, trying to force words together/ off beat rapping.

But here is a taste of what you will see...if your bored and can't think of anything good to watch. And the acting is better than what you saw in Twilight you jive turkey!

NINTENDO POWER!

A couple of nights ago Benjamin and I bonded over a game of Super Mario Bros. 2 on the original NES. That's right. I still own the gray box that my sister and I received nearly 20 years ago and it still works. But I came up short and lost all of my lives on the last stage of the second to last level (7). It was hard back then and it's still almost impossible to beat. I thought I would be better with age. But I am very proud to say that even though Ben can't count to 20, he can make it all the way to level 3 on Super Mario Bros. 2 on his own! (wipes tear from eye)

Fiesta Bowl Highlights

Yes Leslie Lott I am addicted to YOU TUBE and I should be working on a major history paper as well. But I am one of those annoying BSU fans that has to live in the past and re-watch this game.

Dick Butkus, Mike Curtis and Dickie Post

Dick Butkus

Dickie Post

Mike Curtis

These are a few players I idolized in high school. Too bad I was an undersized offensive lineman during my playing days.

Halloween Part 2 !

Jamie holds Parker tightly in a loving embrace as he tries to flee from the backing mini-van.

Jamie: "Are we done yet?!"
Leslie: (sigh)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Afros

You know somethings wrong when the ghosts feel safer than cartoon characters.

Calie is surprised by something. Leslie is pretending to be Rambo. Look at those socks!

HALLOWEEN

Ben the Ninja Turtle. Parker the Batman. Cooper the Wizard. Ryan the Straight "A" Student w/ a car. It was a night of pretending and imagination.

Ben warming up on the Lott's trampoline.

Jamie (Sister in Law) and Calie. The horns are real.

Ben and The Great Pumpkin!

Ben at the door. Man, Parker is white!!!

Can you believe I had a psychology class on Halloween night?! If my professor is as good at reading people as he says he is he must have felt the whole class burning a whole through him the longer he talked and talked and talked. I was able to sneak out during our "first break". I wasn't there for the Trick or Treating but everyone had fun and there were no injuries! A big thanks must be given to the Lott's who always allow us invade their home and leave it a disaster. Big thanks to Kurt for watching Ben and Parker as I left for class and big thanks to Leslie for leading the troops through the labyrinth of homes.
